1. Guess Who's Back
Trying to figure out how the Big Sky Conference football schedule works might require a graduate degree in mathematics. Regardless how it is created, it has formed some unique scheduling match-ups. One of those anomalies is Portland State, which will be appearing at Sacramento State for the fifth time since 2014. During that same stretch, the Hornets have made only one trip to PSU — winning 45-17 in 2022. No matter where the game has been played, the winning team has scored at least 40 points in the last six games.

2. Let The Debate Begin
With Jayden Daniels' Hail Mary victory for the Washington Commanders last weekend, it sparked the conversation of what former Hornet opponent has had the best NFL career as a QB. Sacramento State faced Daniels when he was a true freshman at Arizona State in 2019. Daniels later transferred to LSU, won the Heisman Trophy and is off to a great start to his NFL career. Andrew Luck (Stanford) is the most popular answer to the question. Luck spent seven years with the Indianapolis Colts before abruptly retiring following the 2018 season. He finished his career with 23,671 regular season passing yards and had 87 touchdowns. Others in the mix include Jim Zorn (Cal Poly Pomona), James Harris (Grambling), Neil Lomax (Portland State), Ken O'Brien (UC Davis), John Friesz (Idaho), Derek Anderson (Oregon State) and Jake Browning (Washington). O'Brien (25,094 yards), Lomax (22,771) and Zorn (21,115) each started over 100 games in the NFL and joined Luck in throwing for over 20,000 career yards.

3. It's Going To Be Okay
Don't let a little overnight rain squash your thoughts of coming to the game. The forecast calls for the rain to come in Friday night and continue to early Saturday morning. Come kickoff, it is predicted to be 60 degrees with a slight breeze. Once you are at the stadium, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free cowboy hat courtesy of Wendy's.

4. Milestone Watch
With his next touchdown pass, quarterback
Carson Conklin will set the school single-season record for a freshman. Conklin enters this week tied with Ryan Leadingham with 17 TD passes. That mark also places Conklin in four-way tie for eighth place in school history regardless of class. Wide receiver
Jared Gipson needs just 19 yards to become the sixth player in school history to record 2,000 career receiving yards. Gipson will also move into a tie for 10th place in school history with his next touchdown pass which will be the 14th of his career.
