HAMODA’S LAST SECOND GAME WINNER DELIVERS 66-64 MEN’S HOOPS VICTORY OVER IDAHO STATE

SACRAMENTO -- Zee Hamoda's acrobatic, twisting 10-footer with 0.2 seconds left delivered Sacramento State a 66-64 win over Idaho State on Saturday evening at the Nest.

Hamoda's game winner capped an incredibly close game that featured 16 lead changes, nine ties, and neither team leading by more than seven points. Both teams had a 7-0 run in the second half, including Idaho State overcoming a 64-57 deficit to tie the game at 64-64 with 12 seconds left.

That set the stage for Hamoda, who dribbled up top while grinding the clock down. With about three seconds left, Hamoda drove to the right side of the lane where he jumped off his left leg, and buried a running floater from 10 feet  with 0.2 seconds left. The game winner capped an incredible performance from Hamoda, who had 15 points in the second half on 6-for-6 shooting. He scored each of the Hornets' final six points, and eight of the last 10.

Hamoda finished with a game-high 17 points on a very proficient line of 7-8 FG, 1-1 3FG and 2-3 FT. It was Hamoda who scored four points in the final 17 seconds of Thursday's 71-69 win over Weber State, as the junior guard has made a habit of coming through in the clutch. That included the dagger 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in a road win earlier this year at UC Davis.

Despite the lead changing hands 16 times, Sacramento State did not trail the final 10:51. A 7-0 run gave the Hornets a 58-51 lead with 7:29 remaining.

The Hornets (6-11, 2-2) have now won three of their last four games, and four straight inside the Nest. Sacramento State is 5-2 at home, which includes a 71-69 win Thursday night against preseason Big Sky favorite Weber State.

As usual, Sacramento State and Idaho State (6-11, 1-3) found themselves in a tight battle. In fact, each of the last eight meetings between the two teams has been decided by five points or less. The Bengals were coming off a six-point road win at Portland State on Thursday.

Sacramento State dominated the glass, as the team finished with a whopping 38-16 rebounding advantage. That included 15 offensive rebounds resulting in a 15-5 advantage in second chance points. Both teams shot better than 50% from the field (SAC 51%, ISU 52%), and the Hornets overcame a 35-34 halftime deficit with a 32-29 second half. Sacramento State led for 20:04 of game clock, while Idaho State led for 12:36.

Three Hornets scored in double figures, including Jacob Holt's career-high tying 12 points (5-8 FG) to go with five rebounds and a pair of blocks. Four of his rebounds came on the offensive glass. Duncan Powell scored in double figures for the 15th time this year with 10 points and eight rebounds (four offensive). Freshman Bailey Nunn, who played 20 minutes at point guard while starter Emil Skytta dealt with foul trouble, had a season-best eight points, including a pair of 3-balls.

Akol Mawein had four points and seven rebounds, Austin Patterson seven points and three rebounds, Bowyn Beatty four points and five rebounds, and Skytta had four points. Skytta fouled out of the contest with 1:36 to play. Patterson has now buried at least one 3-pointer in 15 straight games.

Sacramento State returns to action next week for a pair of road games. That includes Thursday at Northern Colorado (5 p.m. PT) and Saturday afternoon at Northern Arizona (1 p.m. PT).
