1. Get There Early
Saturday's game will start at 2 p.m. — the earliest start time for a Hornet home game this season. Fans are encouraged to get into the stadium early to celebrate the team's 17 seniors who will be recognized in a pregame ceremony. Those in attendance will also be treated to a flyover by a pair of T-38 Talon jets from Beale Air Force Base following the National Anthem.
2. Playing For A Tie
Sacramento State and Cal Poly will be playing for the 42nd time this weekend. The only team the Hornets have faced more than the Mustangs is UC Davis (69 times). Sacramento State will be looking to even the series against the Mustangs on Saturday. The Hornets trail the all-time series, 20-21, but have won the last three matchups and four of the last five. The schools first met in 1967 and played sporadically through the 1970s. Beginning in 1983, the teams played every year until 2006. After playing just once between 2007-11, the schools reunited in the Big Sky Conference where they have faced one another the last 10 years.
3. I Recognize You
The Cal Poly roster and coaching staff has a lot of connections to the Sacramento area. First year head coach Paul Wulff grew up in Woodland, attended Davis High School and coached at Sacramento State. Co-Defensive Coordinator Will Plemons had two tenures with the Hornets as a defensive line coach. Current Cal Poly defensive line coach Josh Letuligasenoa (Elk Grove HS) and wide receivers coach Asa Jackson (Christian Brothers HS) are both from the area.
Combined the two rosters have 201 players from California including 33 from Sacramento or the neighboring suburbs. That includes 27 on the Hornet roster and six for the Mustangs.
4. How To Follow The Action
Saturday's game can be heard on ESPN 1320 AM and the Audacy app with Dave Lewis (play-by-play), Darren Arbet (color) and Danny Sullivan (sideline) providing the call. The game will also be streamed on ESPN+ and televised locally on KMAX31 with Jason Ross on play-by-play and Darren Arbet as the analyst.
