SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The 2023 season will continue for the Sacramento State football team as the Hornets earned an at-large bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs, it was announced today. Sacramento State will begin its postseason run on Saturday, Nov. 25, at North Dakota. The game will kickoff at 10 a.m. PT from the Alerus Center.
The Hornets finished the regular season with a 7-4 overall record. The team's postseason resumé included a win over Stanford as well as a victory over Southland Conference champion Nicholls. Three of the team's four loss came against opponents ranked in the top 10.
This year marks the fourth straight fall season in which Sacramento State has qualified for the NCAA FCS Playoffs but the first time that the team will play a game in the first round. The Hornets were seeded among the top eight in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and advanced as far as the quarterfinals last year.
South Dakota State, which went 11-0 during the regular season, earned the top seed in the field. Along with the Hornets, the Big Sky Conference was represented by Montana, Montana State and Idaho.
