SACRAMENTO — Sacramento State head men's soccer coach Michael Linenberger announced Thursday that local product Hiroshi Yang and Nevada native Silvestre Cahue have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers with the Hornets.
Yang is a midfielder from Wheatland, Calif., where he competed at Wheatland Union HS and with his Placer United club, while Cahue hails from Henderson, Nev., where he is a defender for Coronado HS and Heat FC. Both are expected to have four years of eligibility with the Hornets when they arrive on campus.
Entering his senior season with the Pirates in 2023-24, Yang is a three-year letter winner at Wheatland HS, scoring 47 goals and assisting on 16 others over his first three prep seasons. He is a three-time all-conference selection — twice earning All-Butte View League honors before being named to the All-Pioneer Valley League honor roll as a junior — who scored 15 goals as a freshman, 12 goals as a sophomore, and a prep-high 20 goals to go with 11 assists as a junior.
Yang helped Wheatland Union HS to a league title and CIF section crown as a junior, helping guide the Pirates to their first-ever appearance in the CIF NorCal Division V regional finals in 2022. With his club team, his is a three-time ECNL first-team selection.
"Hiroshi is a very technical midfield player that can set the rhythm of the game with his passing," Linenberger said. "He is left-footed and can serve a great ball on free kicks and corner kicks. We expect him to contribute immediately as a freshman."
Originally from Chicago, Ill., Cahue helped Coronado HS to a Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Class 5A Southern League finals appearance as a senior as the top seed and recently helped the Cougars to a Nevada state title last weekend (Nov. 10-11) with a 4-0 upset victory over top-seeded Sparks HS in the semifinals and a 2-0 shutout of Palo Verde HS, which defeated Coronado HS in the Southern League title match.
Alongside his club teammates, Cahue was named to the ECNL Boys U17 Southwest All-Conference team in 2022-23.
"Silvestre is a left-footed left back that is tough and aggressive on defense and is also good on the ball and can contribute in the attack," Linenberger said. "He has a great competitive mentality and will do anything to help his team win."
