SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento State women's soccer program rounded out its coaching staff with a pair of Hornet alumnae, welcoming back Jennifer Lum and Danielle Davis to the sidelines for the 2022 campaign, Head Coach Randy Dedini announced.
Lum, a three-time All-Big Sky Conference selection as a student-athlete from 2012-16, has been hired as an assistant coach while Davis, who graduated in the spring of 2022 with a degree in kinesiology after three seasons on the Sacramento State roster, has come aboard as a volunteer assistant.
Following her standout career with the Hornets where she was also a four-time Big Sky All-Academic Team selection, a three-time team MVP, and the program's offensive player of the year as a senior, Lum played professionally for the California Storm from 2017-19 before taking her game to the world stage, playing for clubs in Australia (Southern United FC and Alamein FC) and Iceland (Grotta FC).
During the off-season she began her coaching career, joining the staff of Placer United FC at the club level from 2016-17, along with stops at Folsom High School (2014-17), conference rival Portland State (2019), and professionally at Ashburton United FC in Melbourne, Australia, in 2021.
"This is an incredible opportunity for us to bring back a stud alumni and have her join our soccer staff," Dedini said. "She brings instant credibility with what she did as a player for our program as well as her professional playing career.
"Jen has been a student of the game for so many years and now we get to benefit from her sharing her knowledge to our current players. She is a true Hornet that bleeds green and gold and we are so excited to have her with us again!"
Davis, who was a member of the Sacramento State roster for three seasons from 2019-21 after transferring from Diablo Valley College, will be tasked with helping train the Hornet keepers during the 2022 campaign. She finished with 21 career wins and eight shutouts in her two seasons at Diablo Valley, earning Big 8 Conference Defensive MVP honors as a sophomore in 2018-19, while leading the league with 116 saves.
The Antioch, Calif., native prepped at Deer Valley HS, where she was Bay Valley Athletic League MVP and earned all-conference first team honors as a senior, and played club for the Delta Arsenal for four seasons.
"We are really excited to add Danielle Davis to our coaching staff," Dedini said. "Danielle brings such a positive vibe and a contagious energy to our team. She has a strong knowledge of the position and will help with our goalkeeping group as well as giving us overall support to our program.
"Her enthusiastic approach to trainings and eagerness to help our program win a Big Sky Conference championship will be a welcome addition."
Lum, Davis, and the rest of the Hornets officially open their 2022 season on Thursday (Aug. 18) at 7 p.m., taking on No. 21 Stanford on the road at Maloney Field.
