Box Score RENO, Nev. --
Sophomore Josh Rolling led-off the game with a home run while sophomore Jeffery Heard and senior Nick Iwasa each finished with two hits on the night, but it wasn't enough to overcome a power Nevada offense as the Wolf Pack scored in every inning en route to a 20-5 victory over Sacramento State on Tuesday night at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park in Reno.
The loss dropped the Hornets to 13-15 overall on the season, while Nevada improved to 14-13 with the win.
Rolling, a Reno native, became the second Sacramento State player to lead-off the game with a home run this season, joining Iwasa's blast to open last weekend's series at Western Athletic Conference rival Utah Valley, and was his first since clearing the fence at Seattle U on March 18. His four home runs are tied for second on the team alongside Heard.
Meanwhile, Heard tied his career high with his eighth two-hit game of the season, both going for doubles on Tuesday, while Iwasa also logged his eighth multi-hit game of the year, entering in the fifth before driving in a run in the seventh with a triple and another in the ninth with a single.
Rolling's blast got the Hornets off to a good start, but Nevada answered with a pair of runs in the home half before busting the game wide open with a five-run second inning and never looking back, scoring multiple runs in five of the eight innings on the night.
Sacramento State finally got back on the scoreboard in the seventh thanks to a sacrifice fly by junior Martin Vincelli-Simard and Iwasa's triple, and tacked on two more in the ninth on Iwasa's single and a sac fly off the bat of sophomore Gunner Gouldsmith.
Sophomore Jorge Bojorquez and sophomore Carson Blatnick also added singles on the night.
Right-hander Noah Takacs (0-2) suffered the loss as one of eight pitchers on the evening for Sacramento State, while Alejandro Murillo (2-1) earned the win for the Wolf Pack, allowing a run on three hits and striking out six over six innings.
The Hornets return to the field this weekend, traveling to Las Cruces, N.M., for a three-game series at New Mexico State beginning Friday (April 8) and running through Sunday (April 10).
