Box Score OGDEN, Utah -- Arissa Henderson tossed a five-hit shutout and Weber State scored in all but one inning on the way to a mercy rule shortened 8-0 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.
The Wildcats scored once in the first and third innings, before scoring five times in the fourth and once more in the fifth to secure the three-game sweep of the Hornets. Today's win allowed Weber State to win the Big Sky Conference's regular season championship.
The Hornets dropped to 25-23 overall and 9-6 in the Big Sky with the loss. Sacramento State found itself down, 5-0, in all three games against Weber State, and never led in any contest. The Wildcats improved to 35-10 and 13-1 in league play. Sacramento State had won each of its first four Big Sky series until playing Weber State.
Only three games remain in the regular season, and those will come next week when the Hornets host a three-game set vs. Southern Utah on Friday and Saturday. The Big Sky Tournament, which will be played in Ogden, will be May 11-14.
Sacramento State had five hits against Henderson, but all five were singles. The Hornets had hits in four of the game's five innings, but could never push a runner past second base. Lewa Day had two of Sacramento State's hits, while Nikki Barboza, Amber Rodriguez and Samantha Parish also had hits.
The top four batters in the Weber State lineup - Faith Hoe, Henderson, Chloe Camarero and McKell McCuistion - combined to go 6-for-10 with six RBIs in today's game.
Sacramento State's Marissa Bertuccio (17-8) pitched the first 3.1 innings for the Hornets while Lexie Webb tossed the final 1.1 innings.
The Hornets will host a doubleheader on Friday vs. Southern Utah at noon, followed by a single game on Saturday at noon.
