WOMEN'S BASKETBALL KEEPS ROLLING WITH 73-62 WIN OVER PORTLAND STATE

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's basketball team earned its seventh victory in its last eight games with a 73-62 win over Portland State on Saturday at The Nest. The Hornets were led by 27 points from Lianna Tillman and 23 points and 17 rebounds from Isnelle Natabou. Senior Summer Menke also became the 15th player in school history to have 1,000 career points with 13 points.

The Hornets are now 11-10 overall and 7-5 in the Big Sky Conference. The Vikings dropped to 5-14 overall and 0-11 in league games.

After Portland State scored the game's first points, Sacramento State tied the game with a Tillman basket and then moved ahead with a three from Menke. The team never relinquished that lead for the remainder of the contest and led by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter.

Much like the first game in Portland, which started the team's current streak on Jan. 15, the duo of Tillman and Natabou were too much to handle for the Vikings. Tillman scored nine points in the first quarter to put the Hornets comfortably ahead (21-12) and provided the dagger with two threes late in the fourth quarter. She has now scored 20 or more points in six straight games.

Natabou had a double-double before halftime and now has 13 on the season, including the last eight games. She was 9-of-13 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free throw line.

Menke entered the contest needing 13 points to hit the 1,000 point mark and finished the game with 13. The senior scored five points in the first half but added eight in the third quarter to become the first Hornet to reach the milestone since Hannah Friend and Maranne Johnson in 2018.

Despite shooting just 20.0 percent from three (4-20), the Hornets shot 47.4 percent overall after making 23-of-37 two-point attempts. The team was able to pound the ball inside, outscoring the Vikings 40-16 in the paint. Sacramento State also limited its turnovers to just eight for the game and held PSU to 37.7 percent shooting from the field.

The Hornets will return to the road where it will play at Northern Colorado and Southern Utah on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. The team's next home game will come on Thursday, Feb .17, against Weber State at 7 p.m.
