SAN DIEGO -- Sacramento State dropped both its games on the second day of the La Jolla Softball Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets fell to Utah, 13-0, before losing to Saint Mary's, 13-7.

The Hornets (3-5 overall) fell to 1-3 at the three-day tournament, and will conclude the event tomorrow morning vs. UC San Diego at 10 a.m. Sacramento State opened tourney play yesterday with a loss to Utah and win against the Tritons. UC San Diego is the tournament host.

Though the Hornet pitching staff was victimized for 26 runs and 25 hits, it was the defense that had a major impact in the loss to Saint Mary's. Of the Gaels' 13 runs, a whopping 10 were unearned as Sacramento State committed six errors. Prior to the game against the Gaels, the Hornets had committed just eight errors through the first seven contests.

Today marked the return of first baseman Alondra Mejia who missed the first six games of the season. The senior first baseman responded with a double, homer and four RBIs. That included a grand slam as part of a five-run third inning against Saint Mary's that tied the score at 6-6.

A total of four Hornets combined for multiple hits this afternoon, including Lexie Webb (3), Mejia (2), Samantha Parish (2) and Carley Morfey (2). Lewa Day, who did not start the previous two games with an injured hand, returned to collect a hit against Saint Mary's.

Sacramento State used four pitchers in today's doubleheader, and each threw between two and four innings. That included Kelsey Alcantara (3.2 ip), Webb (3.1 ip), Caroline Evans (3.1 ip) and Marissa Bertuccio (2.2 ip). Offensively, Evans had a double in her lone at-bat of the day.

Among Hornets with more than 10 at-bats this season, four are hitting at least .320. That includes Webb (.370), Day (.353), Parish (.333) and Morfey (.320).
