GOLD RIVER, Calif. --- The Sacramento State women's rowing squad competed in its second race of the fall season at the Head of the American Saturday morning on Lake Natoma.
Saturday's racing took place on a three-mile course with a time trial start format. Sacramento State competed two boats in the Collegiate Eight (27-boat field), and had one entry in the Collegiate Novice Eight (3-boat field).
In the Collegiate Eight, Pac-12 crews dominated the top spots. In fact, a Pac-12 team took up every spot among the top 11 finishers except for San Diego placing eighth. Sacramento State's A boat posted a time of 17:47.9, good for 12th place in the 27-boat field. That 12th place finish was better than Loyola Marymount and a pair of entries from UCLA. In addition, the Hornets' A boat was comprised of four rowers new to the program, including three freshmen.
The Hornets' B boat placed 20th in the race with a time of 18:27.1.
In the Collegiate Novice Eight, the Hornets placed first with a time of 20:54.9, followed by UC Davis (21:12.3) and Cal Lightweights (23:27.1) to round out the three women's entries.
