LOPEZ'S LATE GAME-WINNER LIFTS WOMEN'S SOCCER OVER IDAHO STATE, 1-0

Box Score

POCATELLO, Idaho - Sacramento State picked up three must-have points on Sunday, defeating the Idaho State Bengals, 1-0, on Abby Lopez's 87th minute game-winner.

With the win, Sacramento State is now 4-9-2 overall and 3-4 in the Big Sky. Idaho State is just 2-14-1 overall and 2-5 in league play.

Sunday's match was quiet for the first 87 minutes before Abby Lopez scored her fourth goal of the year and her first career game-winner. From midfield, Aubrey Goodwill played a perfect forward ball high through the air to a dashing Lopez.

Lopez split a trio of Bengal defenders, chesting the ball down to her feet before firing a shot over the oncoming Idaho State keeper and into the far corner of the net.

For Lopez, the goal was her team-leading fourth of the year. For Goodwill, the assist was just her first of the year but the 12th of her career.

Prior to Sunday's late score, Sacramento State had fired off 14 shots, placing five of them on goal. Idaho State's McKayla Wetsel proved up to the task however, saving all five of the Hornets' first shots on goal.

Danna Restom nearly made it 2-0 in the match's final seconds, but her slow rolling shot clanged off the right post before being cleared away by the Bengals defense.

The shot was Restom's fourth of the afternoon, and her only on goal. Jasmyne Dunn was next with three total shots, also putting one on frame. Samantha Craig and Lopez each took two shots, placing both on goal.

In total, Sacramento State fired off 16 shots, placing six of them on goal. Idaho State wasn't far behind, attempting 13 total shots, including five on goal. Sacramento State's Mia Shalit was perfect on Sunday, saving all five of the attempts against her.

With the win, Sacramento State now has nine points in the Big Sky, tied for sixth in the league. The top six teams in the conference will advance to the Big Sky Tournament at the end of the month.

The Hornets have just two matches remaining in the regular season and will play both of them at home next week. Up first is a Friday afternoon showdown against Northern Arizona. That match will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and will stream live online on ESPN+ with live stats at HornetStats.com.

After that, the Hornets host Southern Utah at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24 for Senior Day at Hornet Field.
