WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS FRIDAY MATINEE AT WEBER STATE

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State entered Friday afternoon's match in Ogden, Utah, riding a two-game win streak, but was unable to keep the momentum rolling, falling to the Weber State Wildcats, 3-0.

With the loss, Sacramento State falls to 3-9-2 overall and 2-4 in Big Sky competition. Weber State improves to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in conference.

The Hornets were riding high after last weekend's back-to-back wins against Idaho and Eastern Washington, but drew a tough matchup on Friday against one of the Big Sky's best in the Wildcats.

Friday's action got off to a controversial start when the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead despite what looked like the Weber State forward being offside. The center referee and assistant conferred on the call, but ultimately the goal stood as the Hornets found themselves in a 1-0 hole in the 23rd minute of play.

There was nothing controversial about the second goal as Weber State doubled its lead in the 41st minute, stringing together two great touches after a corner kick to drive the ball into the back of the net. The Wildcats found their third and final goal in the 65th minute, essentially putting the match out of reach for the Hornets.

Sacramento State had scored six goals on 25 shots in its previous two matches, but was shutout on Friday and held to just six shots. All six shots were taken by different palyers, and two of them were on target, one by each Jasmyne Dunn and Tiffany Miras, but neither managed to get by the Wildcats keeper.

Mia Shalit made six saves of her own, but allowed three goals while facing 16 total shots from the Weber State offense.

Weber State has proven to be one of the toughest competitors in the Big Sky this season but fortunately for the Hornets, things get a little easier as they head to Idaho State for their next match. While the Wildcats are 5-1 in league play, Idaho State is just 1-4. They host Portland State Friday night.

Sunday's match between the Hornets and the Bengals will be an early start, kicking off at 11 a.m. PT. The match will stream live online on ESPN+ with live stats available at HornetStats.com.
