WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS ON THE ROAD AT MONTANA STATE

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Sacramento State dropped a tough one on the road Thursday night, falling to the Big Sky-leading Montana State Bobcats, 113-69.

Sacramento State falls to 8-19 overall with the loss and 6-12 in Big Sky play. Montana State meanwhile, remains atop the Big Sky with a 16-1 conference record and a 20-6 overall mark.

After scoring the game's first basket, Sacramento State fell victim to a 14-0 Montana State run. The Hornets answered with a run of their own, cutting the deficit to just one, 14-13, with four minutes left in the first quarter. That was as close as Sacramento State would get for the rest of the night.

The Hornets kept things within reach through the first quarter, trailing by eight after 10 minutes, but a 33-point second quarter followed by a 38-point third by the Bobcats put the game away.

Sacramento State shot 34.2% overall and was just 7-for-30 from beyond the arc. They pulled in 37 rebounds – 19 of them offensive – and had six steals. Montana State shot an incredible 60.3% overall from the floor, including 50% (11-22) from beyond the arc.

Summer Menke scored a team-high 17 points for the Hornets, adding four rebounds, three steals, and an assist to her line. She was 6-for-13 overall on the night.

Tiana Johnson had 16 points and finished just shy of the double-double, pulling in nine rebounds. No other Hornet finished in double-figures.

For the Bobcats, seven different players finished in double-figures, including a game-high 19 points by Oliana Squires. Squires went 6-for-8 overall, all of her shots coming from three.

Fortunately for the Hornets, they won't have to dwell on Thursday night's game long as they head across the state to take on the Lady Griz of Montana on Saturday. Tip off for Saturday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT. It is Sacramento State's last regular season road game of the year. The Hornets will close the regular season with senior day at home on Friday, March. 6.
