Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior forward Adaurie Dayak scored her second goal of the weekend but UC Santa Barbara put nine shots on goal and scored three times for a 3-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Coming off a 3-2 win on Friday at CSU Bakersfield, Sacramento State (1-4-0) was even with the Gauchos 1-1 at halftime but the home team scored twice in the second half. UC Santa Barbara (2-2-1) picked up its second consecutive home victory after a win over Texas on Friday.
The Gauchos had a 21-9 overall shot advantage in the game and were 9-5 in shots on goal. The home team also had nine corner kicks while allowing just two and had a 5-0 edge in corners in the second half.
UCSB had eight shots in the first 18 minutes of play and got on the board in the 18th minute when Mallory Hromatko headed in a cross from Dakota Griggs for her second goal of the season.
Sacramento State put four of its five total shots in the first half on goal and found the equalizer in the 35th minute. Junior Alyssa Anderson sent a short pass that Dayak was able to finish into the right side of the Gaucho goal to bring the game level. Dayak scored for the second consecutive game after netting the game-winning goal on Friday.
The score remained level through the end of the first half but UC Santa Barbara jumped back ahead early in the second half as Jessica Parque blasted home a shot from the top far left side of the box just two minutes and 16 seconds into the second period.
The Gauchos continued to control play through the early stages of the second half and scored again in the 73rd minute when Angelisa Cortez collected a pass from Griggs atop the box and put it home.
UCSB could have had a fourth goal as the home team was awarded a penalty kick in the 83rd minute, but Griggs was denied by Hornet goalkeeper Destiny Butcher. Meanwhile, Sacramento State was held to just one shot on goal in the second half as the Gauchos completed the win.
Butcher finished with six saves, her third straight game with at least six saves as she has 20 total saves in her last three contests. Jacq Caginia made four stops in goal for the Gauchos in the win. Junior Maggie Pleis had a team-high three shots for the Hornets, placing all three on goal.
Sacramento State returns home to host Cal State East Bay at 4 p.m. Thursday at Hornet Field.
