Former Sacramento State women's soccer standout Jennifer Lum returns to her alma mater for her first season as an assistant coach, joining the program prior to the start of the 2022 season.
A three-time All-Big Sky Conference selection as a student-athlete from 2012-16, Lum was also a four-time Big Sky All-Academic Team selection, a three-time team MVP, and the program's offensive player of the year as a senior, appearing in 66 matches over her collegiate career and making 61 starts.
She scored 12 goals and added 11 assists for 35 points during her four seasons -- including five game-winning goals and assisting on the game-winner three times -- while taking a total of 178 shots and putting 85 of those on goal to rank among the top five in the history of the program in those two categories.
As a senior in 2016, Lum earned All-Big Sky first team honors all-tournament team honors, starting 19 matches and leading the team with six goals and 14 points -- all against conference opponents -- with all but one assist coming in her final six collegiate contests. Her 66 shot attempts and 36 shots on goal that year ranked second in the Big Sky in both categories.
She started all 20 matches as a junior, finishing with three goals and five assists for 11 points en route to All-Big Sky honorable mention honors, and appeared in 18 matches with 17 starts as a freshman in 2013, leading the team with four assists and a pair of goals en route to All-Big Sky second team laurels.
Following her standout career with the Hornets, Lum played professionally for the California Storm from 2017-19 before taking her game to the world stage, playing for clubs in Australia (Southern United FC and Alamein FC) and Iceland (Grotta FC).
During the off-season she began her coaching career, joining the staff of Placer United FC at the club level from 2016-17, along with stops at Folsom High School (2014-17), conference rival Portland State (2019), and professionally at Ashburton United FC in Melbourne, Australia, in 2021.
