Nathan Kenion was named the safeties coach at Sacramento State in December of 2024.
A longtime coach in Northern California, Kenion comes to the Hornets with 17 years of coaching experience. He served as the defensive coordinator at Diablo Valley JC in 2024 where he helped the Vikings to a 6-5 overall record, including a win over Reedley JC in the Golden Valley Bowl.
Prior to moving to DVC, Kenion served on the staff at De La Salle HS from 2008-22. He started his career as the team's running backs coach and added the role of defensive backs coach two years later. Kenion was promoted to defensive coordinator for his final three seasons. During his tenure, the team won state championships in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
Kenion also ran KT Prep where he trained 18 players who went on to earn All-America honors. That list included one Gatorade National Defensive Player of the Year and 12 future NFL players.
A native of Vallejo, Calif., Kenion attended De La Salle where he excelled in basketball, track and football. He served as a team captain in football for the Spartans and was named second team all-state as a senior after recording over 100 tackles from his safety position. Kenion began his collegiate career at Saint Mary's before transferring to UNLV for his final two seasons. He was named a team captain for the Rebels as a senior.
Kenion was invited to the San Francisco 49ers minicamp in 2007 and played in the Arena Football League in 2009-10 while also beginning his coaching career at the same time.
