Michael Bibby

Michael Bibby will begin his second season at Sacramento State as the associate head coach.

Bibby, who was a four-year Div. I student-athlete, began his tenure with the Hornets prior to the 2025-26 season.

In Bibby’s first season with the Hornets, Sacramento State went 10-4 at home and consistently sold out Hornet Pavilion. In fact, the 10 home victories were the most for the program since the 2019-20 season, and the average attendance of 2,758 per home game set a school record.

The program finished with 2,408 points, and an average of 77.7 points per contest - both the top marks in the Hornets’ Div. I era (1991-pres.). In addition, the team’s aggressiveness led to 595 made free throws (easily the most in the team’s Div. I era, second in program history), and a school-record 78% shooting from the free throw line. Also, a pair of Hornet teammates - Prophet Johnson (18.2 ppg) and Mikey Williams (17.1 ppg) - averaged better than 17 points in the same season for the first time in 38 years.

Academically, the team thrived as a program-record seven Hornets were named to the Big Sky all-academic team, and 12 of the team’s 15 players had 3.0 or better grade point averages.

Prior to Sacramento State, the Phoenix, Ariz., native spent two seasons as assistant coach at Desert Mountain High School (Scottsdale) where he recruited a five-star and four-star athlete to the program. Bibby was the defensive coordinator and helped the team reach the Final Four of the state tournament.

Prior to Desert Mountain, Bibby spent one season (2021-22) with the Dream City Christian national team out of Glendale, Ariz., where he was the defensive coordinator for the Eagles.

Bibby also assisted in all aspects of coaching with the Puerto Rican National Team in the summer of 2022.

As a player, Bibby played four years of Div. I collegiate ball, including three seasons at Appalachian State (2017-20), and one season at South Florida (2016-17). Bibby appeared in 83 games during his three active seasons (redshirted in 2017-18).

He was rated a three-star recruit by ESPN out of Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix where he played for his father. During his prep career, Bibby was a four-year varsity starter, two-time all-state selection, two-time state champion, and was the Arizona Player of the Year. He was also an honorable mention All-American as a senior after averaging 19.3 points per game.

Bibby graduated in 2020 with a communication studies degree from Appalachian State.
