Jason Spencer joined the Sacramento State athletics communications staff in February of 2022, responsible for coordinating media relations efforts for the Hornets' baseball, women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, and women's tennis programs.

Prior to his arrival, Spencer spent the previous nine years across the Causeway at UC Davis, working with a number of the university's 25 athletic programs including women's volleyball, men's water polo, women's basketball, men's and women's golf, women's lacrosse, and women's beach volleyball. He also worked with the UC Davis men's and women's soccer programs, men's and women's cross country, men's tennis, women's swimming and diving, and equestrian, as well as both baseball and softball.

Spencer arrived in Northern California following 13 years in the media relations office at Cal State Fullerton where he spent his last year as the Sports Media Manager, working primarily with women's soccer, men's basketball, and women's golf, while also spending time with the women's basketball, softball, and women's tennis programs as well as women's gymnastics teams during his time in Orange County. He also served as the webmaster for the athletic department’s website, FullertonTitans.com.

His career in the sports information field began in the Pacific Northwest, where he spent eighteen months as the Assistant Media Relations Director at the University of Portland in Oregon, where he worked primarily with the women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s tennis teams.

While in the Rose City, Spencer also worked as a Communications Assistant with the now defunct Portland Fire of the WNBA during its inaugural season.

A native of Fresno, Calif., Spencer graduated from the University of Southern California in 1999 with a bachelors degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in sociology. There, he served as a student assistant in the sports information office for three-and-a-half years and was the public address announcer for Trojan baseball for four seasons.

He also spent two-and-a-half years on staff of the Daily Trojan, including a semester as Sports Editor, covering such beats as women’s golf, men’s water polo, baseball, and football. Spencer currently resides in Sacramento, Calif., with his wife, Katie, their son, Nathan, and their daughter, Riley. Spencer, his wife, and his son, all share the same birthday, while his daughter missed it by a month.
