Greg Moody II enters his second season at Sacramento State as assistant coach and director of recruiting for the 2026-27 season.
Moody has 10 years of coaching experience - five of those seasons spent with head coach Mike Bibby at Shadow Mountain High School (2014-19).
He has coaching experience at the collegiate, prep school, high school and AAU levels. During his time at Shadow Mountain, he served on the same staff with Bibby as the varsity assistant coach, while also working as the head junior varsity coach.
In Moody’s first season with the Hornets, Sacramento State went 10-4 at home and consistently sold out Hornet Pavilion. The 10 home victories were the most for the program since the 2019-20 season, and the average attendance of 2,758 per home game set a school record.
The program finished with 2,408 points, and an average of 77.7 points per contest - both the top marks in the Hornets’ Div. I era (1991-pres.). In addition, the team’s aggressiveness led to 595 made free throws (easily the most in the team’s Div. I era, second in program history), and a school-record 78% shooting from the free throw line. Also, a pair of Hornet teammates - Prophet Johnson (18.2 ppg) and Mikey Williams (17.1 ppg) - averaged better than 17 points in the same season for the first time in 38 years.
Academically, the team thrived as a program-record seven Hornets were named to the Big Sky all-academic team, and 12 of the team’s 15 players had 3.0 or better grade point averages.
At Shadow Mountain, he helped coach the varsity team to a 128-18 overall record, four consecutive state championships (2015-19) and five section titles. In addition, he coached nine first team all-state selections, five Div. II Players of the Year, five section players of the year, and 27 all-section athletes. That includes coaching 12 players that went on to receive Div. I scholarships.
He played collegiately for four seasons, including two years at Mount Olive College (2000-02) in North Carolina, and two years at Phoenix Junior College (1998-00). As a senior at Mount Olive, Moody led the conference in assists with 6.2 per game, a mark which still ranks seventh in program single-season history.
At Phoenix College, he also led the conference in assists with 6.5 per game. He was a two-year team captain, first team all-region, and an all-conference selection while helping the Bears to a conference title.
He served as an assistant coach with his alma mater for one season before graduating from Mount Olive with a bachelor’s degree in business in 2002.
Moody is married to Denise Moody, and they have three children - Trevon Sr (ViriDiana), Kyona and Deondrea. They also have four grandchildren - Zariyah, Trevon Jr., Simar and Simiya.
