Dr. Alexander Soto

 Dr. Alexander Soto is the Head Team Physician for Sacramento State Athletics, where he oversees the medical care of Division I student-athletes. He leads injury evaluation and management, coordinates specialty care, and works closely with athletic trainers, mental health providers, sports nutrition and sports performance staff to support athlete health and performance. 

Dr. Soto has experience across professional, collegiate, and high school sports. During his sports medicine fellowship at UCLA, he served as an assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Los Angeles Sparks, and worked with the Los Angeles Chargers, including at the NFL Scouting Combine. He also provided medical care for athletes at the Red Bull Athlete Performance Center. 

At the collegiate level, Dr. Soto served as a team physician for UCLA Athletics, providing medical oversight for baseball, rowing, and men’s golf while also serving as an assistant team physician for UCLA football. His work included managing both acute and chronic injuries, conducting pre-participation exams, providing primary care, and guiding return-to-play decisions. He also served as Head Team Physician for Santa Monica High School. 

Dr. Soto earned his undergraduate degree from California State University, San Bernardino after transferring from Barstow Community College. He attended the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA through the PRIME-LA program, earning both his MD and MPH, followed by residency training in Family Medicine and fellowship training in Sports Medicine at UCLA.
