Carl Reed is currently serving as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Facilities, Operations, and Capital Projects at Sacramento State - a position he began in June of 2022.

Prior to joining Sacramento State, Reed spent five years at Santa Clara as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Administration and Student Services. In that role, he managed various sports teams, including men’s and women’s water polo, tennis, and rowing, and oversaw the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

He also acted as a liaison to key campus departments such as student life, campus safety, housing, and the Title IX office. Reed also led Santa Clara Athletics Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion which included guest speakers, summer book club reading, and a committee made up of student-athletes, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Reed’s career has also seen significant roles at UCS from 2013 to 2018, where he served as the assistant athletic director and general manager of the Galen Center. During his tenure at USC, he was responsible for supervising and administering all event operations at the Galen Center, including non-athletic events and award shows, generating $1.7 million in revenue annually. He also played a crucial role in marketing the venue to external promoters and the public.

Before his time at USC, Reed worked as the facilities manager for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena from 2011 to 2013, where he managed daily operations and directed maintenance and renovation efforts.

Reed has also been the Founding Director of Athletics at Cal State Channel Islands from 2009 to 2011, where he led the creation of the University’s intercollegiate athletics program. Earlier in his career, from 2003 to 2009, he was the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities, Operations, and Events at Stanford, overseeing $275 million worth of capital projects and renovations including the Stanford Stadium and Maples Pavilion renovations.

His experience also includes directing the grand opening of the Jenny Craig Pavilion at the University of San Diego from 2000 to 2003. Reed holds a Master of Arts in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Government, both from Saint Mary’s.
