A long time head coach at UC Davis and a former assistant at Sacramento State, Daryl Lee rejoined the women’s tennis team prior to the 2014-15 season and now serves as Sacramento State's Assistant Director of Tennis.
Lee spent 19 seasons as the head coach of the UC Davis men's tennis team, helping move the team from the Div. II to Div. I ranks and into the Big West Conference in 2007. In the Aggies first three years as a member of the Big West, the team enjoyed Athlete of the Week honors three times and had multiple individuals capture post-season honors each season. The squad also earned a No. 75 national ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.
Over his 19 seasons at UC Davis Lee amassed 146 wins and coached eight players to All-American honors. Prior to the Aggies move to Division I, Lee led the team to nine appearances in the NCAA Division II Championships. During that time, the Aggies finished in the top-20 in the final ITA national poll six times while being ranked in the top-10 on two separate occasions. He was named NCAA West Region Coach of the Year twice and his 2011-12 team advanced to the semifinals of the Big West Conference Championships for the first time in school history.
Off the court Lee's UC Davis teams posted the highest GPA among all Aggie men’s programs in eight different years. The squad also won the Big West Conference Sportsmanship Team Award in two of the five years that they were in the Big West, 2008 and 2012.
Lee began his coaching career in 1991 as the men's assistant at Sacramento State. After one year he was promoted to women's coach until coming to UC Davis in the fall of 1993. While at Sacramento State he also earned a master’s degree in counseling from the university in 1993.
Lee graduated from Stanford with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1987. He was a member of the 1983 NCAA Team Champion Stanford tennis team.
