Biography

2008 Season: Made an immediate impact during her first season with the team…earned second team all-WAC honors on vault and floor…tied for fifth on vault at the WAC Championships with a 9.825 and was sixth on floor (9.850)…at the NCAA West Regional, she tied for sixth with a vault of 9.850…tied for ninth in school history with a vault of 9.875 which came at UC Davis…led the team with an average of 9.673 in the event and had 10 vaults of at least 9.700…averaged 9.800 in her final eight vaults of the year…finished first in the event five times…also recorded a first-place finish on floor with a 9.850 against Alaska Anchorage.

Prior to Sacramento State:
Is the first international gymnast to compete for the Hornets since Nirvana Zaher (Egypt)…spent 12 years as  a member of the Abottsford Twisters Gymnastics Club…was coached by Horia Iliesu during her final three seasons…placed third in the all-around at the 2007 Canada Winter Games…in that meet, she was first on floor and third on vault…at the 2006 Artistic Canadian Gymnastics Championships, she was seventh in the all-around and third on vault…placed third on floor at the national championships in 2005 and won the national floor title in 2004…was named to the British Columbia provincial team every year since 2002…was invited to compete at Elite Canada in the winter of 2007, which is a national team and Olympic Trials screening event…teamed with former UCLA standout and Canadian Olympian Kate Richardson.

Personal: Plans to become a teacher following graduation…has yet to declare a major but plans to minor in French…graduated from Walnut Grove Secondary School on Langley, B.C…competed in four years of track and field…finished first in the 100 and second in the 200 at the Upper Fraser Valley Championships…was a member of the 4x100 relay team which placed third at the provincials her junior year…parents are Abby and Ruth Chan.
