2017 Beach Season
A second team all-Big West Conference selection…posted an 8-11 record during the season with four different partners…played primarily with Brie Gathright, and the team went 5-8…that included a 1-4 mark at No. 1 and 4-4 at No. 2…Skalbeck was also 3-1 with Shannon Boyle at No. 2, 0-1 at No. 2 with Courtney Dietrich and 0-1 at No. 1 with Madeline Cannon…was part of two match-clinching wins…with the score tied at 2-2 at Boise State on April 7, Skalbeck and Gathright clinched victory at No. 2 with a 22-20, 19-21, 16-14 win…also at 2-2 vs. San Jose State on March 11, Skalbeck and Boyle clinched the victory with a 21-13, 23-21 win at No. 2…overall, Skalbeck was 1-5 at No. 1 and 7-6 at No. 2…the tandem of Skalbeck/Gathright played the final 13 matches of the season together…the first eight of those matches were played at No. 2, and they were moved to the top spot of the team’s lineup during the final five competitions of the season…Skalbeck/Gathright won five matches together, including victories over duos from Oregon (twice), Boise State, San Francisco and San Jose State…at one point during the season, they won five times over a six-match span…a Big West all-academic selection.
2016 Beach Season
Played in all 22 matches, posting a 5-17 record…all 22 of those matches came at the No. 3 spot in the team’s lineup…played with three different partners during the season, including Lana Brown (3-12), Kennedy Kurtz (2-4) and Lauren Aikels (0-1)…posted consecutive three-set wins with Brown over opponents from CSU Bakersfield and San Jose State on April 9…had straight-set wins with Kurtz over Saint Mary’s and 18th-ranked Pacific…a Big West all-academic selection.
2015 Beach Season
One of six Hornets to appear in all 14 matches…posted a team-best 8-6 record…that included a 7-6 record with Shannon Boyle where the tandem went 6-5 at No. 3, and 1-1 at No. 4…also went 1-0 at No. 2 with Madeline Cannon…the combination of Skalbeck and Boyle was the Hornets’ most consistent doubles team…played the first two matches of the season at No. 4, before playing the rest of the season at the No. 3 position…the tandem of Boyle/Skalbeck also won four of their last six matches, including a three-game winning streak against teams from Santa Clara, San Francisco and Cal, respectively…of their seven wins, four came in three sets…played six matches that lasted three sets, and went 4-2 in those contests.
2014 Beach Season
Went 2-4 with Chelcy Motes at No. 4 during the first half of the season before playing the final six matches at No. 5 by going 3-3 with Courtney Dietrich…the victories with Dietrich included wins against Cal Poly, Cal and San Jose State…the wins over Cal and Cal Poly came on the same day, including a 9-21, 21-13, 15-7 victory against the Bears, and 21-18, 6-21, 19-17 vs. the Mustangs…the two wins with Motes came against squads from Cal and Cal Poly.
High School
A 2013 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Portland, Ore…played four years of volleyball for the Rams, including her final three seasons on the varsity squad…during her three varsity seasons, the team combined for a 94-9 overall record, a 43-2 conference record, two state championships (2010, 2011) and three consecutive 6A Mt. Hood Conference titles…was the team captain during her final two seasons (2011, 2012)…was the team’s starting libero as a senior, starting outside hitter as a junior, and played at defensive specialist as a sophomore…a first team all-conference selection as a senior after averaging 4.7 digs per set, and 4.2 aces per match…a second team all-league choice as a starting outside hitter on the 2011 squad that won a state title and finished the season with a 33-0 record…the 2012 team posted a 31-5 record, and the 2010 squad went 30-4.
Personal
A child development major who graduated from Sacramento State in May of 2017…parents are Denver and Kari…played two years for the Oregon Northwest Juniors Elite team…Skalbeck is one of five players from the 2013 Oregon NW 18 Elite squad that play Div. I volleyball.
