Delaney Rasmussen joined the Sacramento State coaching staff in July of 2022. She was promoted to Associate Head Coach for cross country in the summer of 2023. In her role, Rasmussen oversees the men's and women's cross country teams and coach student-athletes in races ranging from 800 meters to the 10K during indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.
A native of Folsom, Calif., Rasmussen prepped at Vista Del Lago HS where she set the school record in the 800 and was a three-time Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III champion. She won the section title in cross county in the fall of 2016 and then came back during the spring to finish first in the 1600 and 3200 during her senior season. She was also the Capital Athletic League winner in the 1600 as a sophomore and senior and finished first in the league cross country meet in 2016.
Rasmussen moved on to Northern Arizona where she was a part of multiple Big Sky Conference championship teams. In cross country, she competed at the NCAA Div. I Championships three times and was a member of the team which won the Big Sky title in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
On the track, she scored for the team 10 times at the Big Sky indoor and outdoor championships. As a senior, Rasmussen placed second in the 10K with a PR of 35:34.98 and was also sixth in the 5K. She ended her career by advancing to the NCAA West Preliminary for the second time.
"Delaney is passionate about coaching, brings a great energy, new training ideas, and comes from a championship culture will help with her overall development as a new coach," McDaniel said. "She has learned from Mike Smith at NAU during her career and I'm excited to watch Delaney grow in this coaching profession. We are fortunate to have Delaney part of our staff."
