Saige Pye completed her first season as a volunteer assistant coach at Sacramento State in 2023 after a record-setting playing career at Marshall.
She helped coach the Hornets to a 2023 Big Sky Conference regular season championship, and nine players were named all-conference. As a team, Sacramento State hit .291, the best mark in seven years, and the sixth best single-season mark in the program’s Div. I era (1990-pres,).
A native of Stockton, Calif., Pye played three years at Marshall (2020-22) after spending two seasons at Georgia Tech (2018-29).
A career .367 hitter during her five collegiate seasons, Pye’s career took off after she transferred to Marshall. In fact, during her three seasons at Marshall, she was a two-time Mideast All-Region and two-time first team all-Conference USA selection. That included a first team all-region choice in 2022 after hitting a program-record tying 20 home runs.
During her three seasons with the Herd, Pye hit .398 with 34 home runs, 102 RBIs, 254 total bases, a .777 slugging percentage, .474 on-base percentage and whopping 1.251 ops. She struck out just 39 times in 327 at-bats (one K every 8.4 at-bats), and started all 103 games she appeared.
Among Marshall’s all-time leaders, Pye ranks first in career slugging percentage, and fourth in batting average, on-base percentage and home runs.
She played 32 games at Georgia Tech during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, prior to transferring to Marshall.
Pye graduated from Marshall in the spring of 2022 with a sports management degree.
