Biography

2015 Season
Was limited to just seven singles matches during the spring because of a knee injury…six of those matches were completed and Marksoo went 3-3, all at No. 4 in the lineup…played the first four matches of the spring before injuring his knee, and made it back for three of the final four matches of the season…won the last two singles matches of his career, including a straight set win (6-2, 6-1) over Montana State’s Kellen Bates in the Big Sky Tournament…recipient of the Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, given to the Sacramento State male senior with the highest overall grade point average…was also a Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winner, given to one male and one female from each Big Sky instution…was a first team all-conference selection as a freshman and Big Sky co-MVP as a sophomore before knee injuries limited him over his final two seasons…finished his Sacramento State career with a 43-15 dual singles record, and a 29-23 dual doubles record…in singles, he was 19-6 at No. 1, 5-2 at No. 2, 7-1 at No. 3, 6-4 at No. 4, and 6-2 at No. 5…went 33-6 over his first two years with the program, and 10-9 over his final two seasons…of his 29 doubles wins, 24 came at No. 1 where he went 24-16…earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status for the third straight year.

2014 Season

Was limited to just 13 matches during the spring because of a knee injury suffered early in the season…posted a 7-6 singles record, including 3-0 in Big Sky matches…went 4-4 at No. 1, 2-1 at No. 2, and 1-1 at No. 3…missed nine straight matches with the injury before returning to play in the Big Sky Tournament where he went 1-1 at the No. 3 spot…career singles record at Sacramento State now stands at 40-12…posted a 3-7 dual doubles record, including a 3-6 mark at the No. 1 spot…won five of his final six singles matches of the season, including a victory against Weber State’s Oliver Good at No. 3 (6-4, 6-3) during the Big Sky Tournament semifinals…an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the second straight year and Big Sky all-academic selection.

2013 Season

Named the Big Sky Conference’s co-MVP along with Eastern Washington’s Joseph Cohen…also a first team all-Big Sky selection for the second straight year…finished the season with a 16-3 singles record, and won each of his final 13 singles matches of the year…began the season as the team’s No. 2 player, but moved up to No. 1 after two matches…became the fourth player in school history to receive a national singles ranking from the ITA, and climbed to as high as 113th in the nation…three-time Big Sky Player of the Week selection…went 5-0 in singles play against Big Sky competition, missing the other matches because of an ankle injury…beat Montana’s Mikolaj Caruk, 6-0, 6-0, in the Big Sky Tournament championship match…provided match-clinching, three-set victories in 4-3 wins over Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary’s and UC Davis…also posted a 13-4 doubles record with teammate Aliaksandr Malko (all at No. 1)…at one point during the season, the tandem of Malko and Marksoo were ranked as the 80th best doubles team in the nation by the ITA, just the fourth doubles team in school history to earn a national ranking…earned ITA Scholar-Athlete and Big Sky all-academic status.

2012 Season
A first team all-Big Sky Conference selection…the most consistent player on the Hornets throughout the season, Marksoo worked his way up from the team’s No. 5 singles player at the beginning of the season to No. 2…posted a 17-3 singles record, including 2-0 at No. 2, 6-0 at No. 3, 3-1 at No. 4 and 6-2 at No. 5…finished the year on an 11-match singles winning streak, and didn’t lose a match since the middle of March…nine of those victories during the streak came in straight sets…a two-time Big Sky Player of the Week selection…went 10-8 in doubles play, including 6-4 at No. 1 with partner Javier Millan…in doubles, Marksoo went 6-4 at No. 1, 0-2 at No. 2, and 4-2 at No. 3…against Big Sky opponents, Marksoo went 8-0 in singles play, and 5-2 in doubles play…of his three singles losses this season, two came in narrow second-set tiebreaker defeats, and the third loss occurred when he was forced to retire against Utah because of a groin injury…a Big Sky all-academic selection.

Son of Martti and Kaohi Marksoo…a geology major who graduated in the spring of 2015…played two years for the US Tenniseakadeemia in Tallinn…awareded the Sacramento State Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for having the highest grade point average of any Hornet senior student-athlete…selected to compete for his home country of Estonia at the 2013 Davis Cup, and became the first player in school history to compete in the prestigious event.
