Biography

2016 Season
One of just four players from the conference that was a unanimous first team all-Big Sky selection…played in 48 of the team’s 50 games, including 47 starts…41 of those starts came at designated player and six at first base…one of the best pure hitters in school history, Margulies received all-league recognition all three years of her career with the Hornets…was a finalist for the Sacramento State Female Student-Athlete of the Year award for the second straight year…hit a team-high .397 (60-for-151) with 33 runs scored, 19 walks, 60 hits, six home runs, 33 RBIs, 83 total bases, a .550 slugging percentage, .463 on-base percentage and 1.013 ops…struck out just once every 16.8 at-bats…finished just three percentage points shy of becoming the first Hornet during the program’s Div. I era (1990-pres.) to hit .400 in multiple seasons - she hit .404 as a junior…reached base safely in each of her final 27 games of the season…led the Hornets in hits, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks, on-base percentage and ops…also hit a team-high tying .414 (29-for-70) against Big Sky opposition with 17 RBIs in 21 conference games…hit .333 (3-for-9) with four runs, five walks, two home runs, seven RBIs and a .500 on-base percentage in four Big Sky Championship games…second on the team in multiple-hit games (18) and multiple-RBI games (8)…had two hitting streaks that lasted at least eight games during the season, including a nine-gamer from March 25-April 8…named Big Sky Player of the Week on April 4…hit safely in 37 games, including 24 of the final 27 games of the year…hit a team-best .355 (33-for-93) with runners on base and .420 (21-for-50) with two outs…hit .349, .404 and .397, respectively, during her three seasons with the Hornets…ranks among Sacramento State’s Div. I career leaders in 10 different categories, including first in batting average (.386), second in on-base percentage (.459), third in RBIs (94) and slugging percentage (.537), tied for sixth in walks (56) and tied for eighth in home runs (11)…the .386 career batting average is 15 percentage points higher than any other Sacramento State player during the Hornets’ Div. I era.

2015 Season
A second team all-Big Sky Conference selection…appeared in 53 games, including 48 starts at first base and three starts at designated player…could just have easily been a first team selection this year as she led the Hornets in batting average (.404), hits (67), doubles (18), RBIs (37), total bases (97), slugging percentage (.584), multiple-hit games (19) and multiple-RBI games (9)…also had a .468 on-base percentage…was a finalist for the Sacramento State Female Student-Athlete of the Year award…became just the fourth Hornet during the Div. I era (1990-pres.) to hit at least .400 in a season…the 18 doubles were one shy of the Hornet Div. I single-season record…had a 15-game hitting streak (April 3-May 1) which ranked as the fourth longest in the program’s Div. I era…hit a team-high .435 (27-for-62) with runners in scoring position and .426 (26-for-61) with two outs in an inning…had 20 two-out RBIs, which was also a team high…reached base safely in 10 straight plate appearances over three games against North Dakota, which included two doubles, a home run, a walk, five singles, and reaching via error on one occasion…named the Big Sky Player of the Week on April 13…had at least four RBIs in a game on four different occasions…an all-Big Sky Tournament selection after batting .364 (4-for-11) with two doubles, three RBIs and a .500 on-base percentage in four tournament games…hit a team-best .427 in 21 Big Sky games with 20 runs scored, eight doubles, two home runs, 20 RBIs and a .613 slugging percentage.

2014 Season

A transfer from Ball State, Margulies was the Sacramento State Female Newcomer of the Year and an honorable mention all-Big Sky Conference selection…hit a team-high .349 (44-for-126) with nine doubles, a triple, home run and 24 RBIs…also had a .443 on-base percentage and a .903 ops…led the team in batting average and walks (20), and ranked second in hits (46), doubles (9), slugging percentage (.460) and on-base percentage…played in 45 games, including 44 starts (39 at first base, five at designated player)…shredded Big Sky pitching to the tune of a .381 batting average, .548 slugging percentage, .536 on-base percentage and a 1.084 ops…in conference games, she ranked first in the Big Sky in walks (14) and fourth in on-base percentage…had an 11-game hitting streak from March 15-April 11, tied for the eighth longest in Sacramento State’s Div. I era (1990-pres.)…had six multiple-RBI games, the second most on the squad…reached base safely in 24 of the final 26 games of the season…hit .329 with runners on base, .346 with runners in scoring position and .333 with two outs in an inning…in 11 opportunities with a runner at third base and less than two outs, Margulies drove in the run seven times, good for a team-best .636 success rate.

Prior to Sacramento State

Spent her first collegiate season (2013) at Ball State in Muncie, Ind…appeared in two games for a Cardinals squad that finished the year 37-17 and won the Mid-American Conference regular season championship with an 18-3 league mark…went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and a .667 slugging percentage.

High School
A 2012 graduate of Westview High School in San Diego…a three-year letterwinner in softball for the Wolverines…was a two-time first team all-San Diego CIF North County selection, two-time first team all-Palomar League, two-time San Diego Union-Tribune all-academic, and two-time team offensive MVP…as a senior, she was also named all-CIF San Diego Section after batting .484 with five home runs, 10 doubles and a .529 on-base percentage…during a four-game stretch in April of her senior season, she hit .727 (8-for-11) with two home runs while earning San Diego Union-Tribune Athlete of the Week honors…finished her prep career with a .432 batting average after hitting .360 as a junior and .440 as a sophomore…was called up to the varsity squad midway through her freshman season after batting .820 for the junior varsity team.

Personal
Parents are Dan and Paula Margulies…a communication studies major who graduated from Sacramento State in the spring of 2016…played six years of club softball for the San Diego Renegades (four years), California Cruisers (one year) and the San Diego Fury (one year)…during those six seasons, she combined to hit .510 with 31 home runs, 32 triples and 91 doubles.
