2016 Season
A fourth-year senior and team co-captain, Papez started all but one game during the season…that included 43 starts in left field, five in right field and once at second base…originally a second baseman, Papez made the successful switch to the outfield…missed just one game all season on April 30 at Weber State because of illness…finished the season batting .262 (34-for-130) with 14 runs, seven doubles, a triple, home run, 46 total bases, 20 RBIs, 13 walks and a .324 on-base percentage…posted career highs in at-bats, runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, total bases and RBIs…committed just three errors during the final 85 games of her career…batted .310 in Big Sky regular season games, and followed that by hitting .455 (5-for-11) in Big Sky Championship play with two doubles and three RBIs…in 10 at-bats with a runner at third base and less than two outs, Papez drove in the run seven times, good for a 70 percent success rate…hit a game-winning three-run homer in the 7th inning to beat Nevada, 4-2, on March 16…that home run was the first of her career…had at least one RBI in six of the final seven games of the season…a Big Sky All-Academic selection.
2015 Season
Played in 14 games, including five starts at second base and two at designated player…in 25 at-bats, Papez had five hits (.200 batting average) with three runs scored, two doubles, three walks and a .286 on-base percentage…hit safely in each of her first four games of the season, including doubles against Long Beach State and UC Davis…also had a pair of sacrifices…made three appearances as a pinch runner, and had three plate appearances as a pinch hitter.
2014 Season
Was limited to just 21 games, including five starts (three at second base, two at designated player) because of a shoulder injury…batted .214 (3-for-14) with three runs scored, two walks and an RBI…used as a pinch runner 11 times, second most on the team…did not commit an error in any of her 15 chances at second base.
2013 Season
Played in 37 games, and started each of those contests at second base…hit .272 (25-for-92) with eight runs, three doubles, 12 RBIs and a team-high 15 walks…had a .376 on-base percentage, the second best mark among Hornet regulars…hit .310 with runners in scoring position, and six of her 12 RBIs came with two outs in an inning…in the seventh inning or later, Papez hit .467 (7-for-15) with four RBIs…had a walkoff RBI-single in the eighth inning of a 1-0 victory over Kansas…had a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to give the Hornets the lead in an eventual 4-3 win at Santa Clara…hit safely in four of her final five games of the year, batting .385 (5-for-13) during that stretch with three RBIs.
High School
A 2012 graduate of Charter Oak High School in Covina, Calif…a four-year member of both the softball and volleyball squads…in softball, she was a four-year starter for the varsity team, primarily at shortstop…a three-time all-Sierra League selection, she was selected to the first team as a sophomore, and second team during both her freshman and senior seasons…also selected to play in the San Gabriel Valley All-Star game as a senior…hit better than .350 three times during her four years with the Chargers, including .477 as a freshman, .354 as a sophomore, and .351 as a senior…during that freshman season (2009), she batted .477 with 22 RBIs in 20 games, and followed up that effort a year later with 29 runs and 16 RBIs in 29 games…named the Chargers’ defensive player of the year three times, and was named a scholar-athlete every year of her career in both softball and volleyball…set the school’s single-game record with three doubles against Wilson High School in 2011…finished her career 16-for-21 in stolen base attempts.
Personal
Parents are Scott and Kimberly Papez…a criminal justice major who graduated from Sacramento State in the spring of 2016…played five years for ASA’s Lakewood Firecrackers of Downey, Calif.
