COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Freshman Griffin Vaughan posted his first collegiate under-par round with a 70 in the third round of the CDA National Reserve Invitational on Tuesday. The Sacramento State men's golf team placed fifth in the tournament after shooting 291-284-298-873.
 
Vaughan was bogey-free through 15 holes with birdies on Nos. 4, 11 and 15 before his first bogey on the par-4 16^th. His score was the lowest on the team and jumped him into a tie for 15^th place overall at 74-74-70-218.
 
Jai Bahl had the highest overall finish on the team with a tie for sixth. Bahl was 2-over on both sides of the course in the third round. He mixed birdies on Nos. 2 and 6 with four bogeys on the front nine and had a birdie on the par-5 14^th with three bogeys on the back nine. Bahl shot 71-66-76-213 for his second-lowest 54-hole total in his career.
 
PJ Segerstrom and Cooper Mapes completed the team total. Segerstrom shot 73  with four birdies and five bogeys. Mapes had a round of 79 with a birdie, four bogeys and two double bogeys.
 
Saint Mary's held off Pacific to win the team title by a one stroke. The Gaels had a commanding lead after two rounds but were 8-over in the round to finish at 7-under. The Tigers led all teams on Tuesday at 6-under. Boise State (7-over), San Francisco (8-over) and Sacramento State (9-over) completed the top five.
 
Sacramento State will return to the Pacific Northwest for the Oregon State Invitational on Oct. 5-6.
