COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — The Sacramento State men's golf had four new faces playing on Monday at the CDA National Reserve Invitational, but it was its two veterans who led the way during the first two rounds. Jai Bahl used a 66 in the second round to move into third place while Zach Matzke is even and tied for 16^th. As a team, the Hornets are in second place with one round remaining.
 
Bahl had a solid first round with an eagle, four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey to finish at 1-under par. However, it was his second round which made the biggest impact. Bahl started the round with an eagle on the par-5 seventh then birdied the par-4 11^th and par-5 14^th and 17^th to get to 5-under. His second eagle of the round — and third of the day — came on the 506-yard par-5 third. After two pars he ended his round with his only bogey of the round. The 66 is the second-lowest score of his career and ties him for 17^th in school history.
 
Matzke matched Bahl in the first round at 1-under. Matzke bounced between 1-under and 2-over throughout the morning with six birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. His second round featured four birdies and five bogeys to leave him even on the day.
 
Griffin Vaughan leads four newcomers playing for the Hornets. The freshman shot a pair of 74s with three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in the first round and one birdie, one bogey and a double bogey in the second round.
 
PJ Segerstrom provided the final score towards the total in the first round with a 75. Segerstrom had three birdies and six bogeys. He added around of 74 in the afternoon to tie for fourth on the team. Cooper Mapes ranked second on the team in the in second round with a  1-under par 71. Mapes had two birdies and a bogey.
 
Saint Mary's was 15-under par in the second round and hold a 14-shot lead over the Hornets. Pacific is even and in third place with San Francisco and Boise State tied for fourth at 2-over.
 
The top three in the individual standings are separated by two shots. Samuel Baumuller of Saint Mary's is 9-under while Oregon State's Davis Hartwell is 8-under and Bahl 7-under.
