SACRAMENTO -- Sophomore
Martin Duris was named the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Hornets to a 2-1 record (all on the road) during the opening week of the season.
Duris, who is a team co-captain, helped Sacramento State to a doubleheader sweep at UC Riverside (4-0 in both outcomes), and a 4-3 loss at UC San Diego.
Today marked the first Big Sky weekly award of the 2026 season. It is also the first weekly accolade in Duris' career.
The Walnut Creek, Calif., native went a perfect 3-0 in singles play, and 1-1 in doubles. He went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, and 1-0 at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. He played at No. 3 doubles in all three matches.
In the wins over UC Riverside, he posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 spot, before winning by retirement (2-1) at the No. 2 spot in the nightcap against the Highlanders. Two days later, at the No. 1 spot at UC San Diego, he earned a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory.
In doubles, he posted a 6-4 victory against Riverside, and a 6-3 loss to UC San Diego. His other doubles match was stopped with Duris/
Miles Whitehead leading, 5-3.
Sacramento State (2-1) is back in action this week for its home opener on Sunday vs. Nevada at 1 p.m.
