Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Sacramento State kicked off the 2026 season in impressive fashion, sweeping a road doubleheader at UC Riverside on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets won both matches by 4-0 scores.
Today also marked the first two collegiate victories for first-year head coach
Mikus Losbergs, who became the Hornets' head coach in August.
In addition, Sacramento State has won its first two matches of a season since beginning 2022 with a pair of wins.
Sophomore team captains
Martin Duris and
Nick Bowles each won both their singles matches with Duris winning from the Nos. 1 and 2 spots in the lineup and Bowles winning at No. 3. Newcomers
Doni Gashi (No. 2), and
Sebastian Vlahos (No. 6) each won their first singles match in a Sacramento State uniform.

Freddie Healey to win both their doubles matches at No. 2, while Duris/Vlahos (No. 3) and Gashi/
Adryan Ballestero (No. 1) were also victorious.
The Hornets' roster features 10 players, none of which are seniors. In fact, the team has just one junior with five sophomores and four freshmen. The junior is Gashi, who transferred from Tyler College. Each of the five sophomores - Bowles, Duris,
David Dai,
Miles Whitehead and
Yoav Levy - are the team's five returners.
Today was the first of a stretch that will see the Hornets play four road matches over four days. That includes a matchup at UC San Diego on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by Saturday at Point Loma at 4 p.m.
