SACRAMENTO -- Sophomore Irene Riva claimed the Hornets' lone point on the day with a victory at No. 5 singles, but the Sacramento State women's tennis team couldn't muster a comeback against Nevada on Saturday, falling to the Wolf Pack, 4-1, at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.
The loss was the second straight for the No. 49-ranked Hornets, who fell to 7-2 overall on the season. Nevada improved to 6-1 with the win.
Riva dispatched Nevada's Wiem Boubaker, 6-2, 7-5, to win her second straight singles contest since returning from injury, but Sacramento State couldn't grab another point.
The visiting Wolf Pack claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to jump out to the early lead, then won at No. 1 and No. 6, before clinching the match with a straight-set victory at No. 3.
Sacramento State looks to turn things around with another two home matches this week, hosting Portland on Thursday (March 6) at 1 p.m., before opening Big Sky Conference play against Montana on Sunday (March 9) at 10 a.m. The contests are part of a run of seven straight home matches for the Hornets.
