SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento State women's tennis team swept its Saturday doubleheader with Nevada and Jessup University, bouncing back from an early deficit for a 5-2 win over the Wolf Pack before sweeping its way past the Warriors for a 7-0 win in the nightcap at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts on campus.
The Hornets have now won three of their last four, improving to 4-3 overall on the season, while Nevada fell to 1-1. The match against the Warriors was a scrimmage for Jessup, which remained 2-2 on the year.
Freshman Lou Baudouin won twice in singles to improve to 7-0 overall on the year in singles play, having now played in every spot in the lineup except for the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Meanwhile, classmate Irene Riva extended a streak of her own, finishing 4-0 on the day and improved to 5-1 in singles play, winning her last four straight.
In the opener, the Hornets rallied back from dropping the double point to outlast the Wolf Pack for five singles wins to clinch the match — winning four of those in three sets.
Following the doubles contests, Baudouin got her team on the board with a straight-set win at No. 5 by a 6-3, 6-3, score over Lea Cakarevic for her sixth consecutive win.
Nevada answered with a straight set win at No. 1 to regain the lead, but it was short-lived as the Hornets rattled off the next four points en route to the victory. Weronika Ejsmont earned a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, at No. 3 over Lou Anne Guerbert to tie the score and Sacramento State took the lead for good with a win at No. 2 by Maddy Ferreros, who downed Marlene Foerster, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
The freshmen then closed it out as Irene Riva clinched the dual with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, win at No. 6 over Kennedy Robinson and Reese Walker took down Anastasia Luneva, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, at the No. 4 spot.
In the night cap, the Hornets dropped only four total games en route to the shutout over the Warriors, clinching the doubles point with triumphs at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots by the scores of 6-0 and 6-1, before winning all six singles contests in straight sets.
Baudouin at No. 2, Reese Walker at No. 3, Riva at No. 4, and Grace McSkimming at No. 6 all posted 6-0, 6-0, shutouts, while Gorbunova won at No. 1 by the scores of 6-1, 6-0, and Best Lee took home a 6-0, 6-2, win at the No. 5 spot.
Sacramento State closes out a run of five straight duals at home on Saturday (Feb. 17) at Noon, hosting UC Irvine.
