WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WELCOMES NORTH CAROLINA’S J’YANA SALTON FOR 2023-24

Incoming guard is the fifth commitment for Head Coach Aaron Kallhoff

SACRAMENTO -- J'yana Salton, a guard from Charlotte, N.C., has committed to continue her academic and athletic career with the Sacramento State women's basketball team, Head Coach Aaron Kallhoff announced on Wednesday.

"J'yana is a versatile scorer that can play on and off the ball," Kallhoff said. "She will be impactful on both ends of the floor and we are excited that she's joined the family."

Salton, a 5-foot-9 guard, prepped at Porter Ridge HS and competed for the Charlotte Lady Monarchs travel team, earning a trio of all-conference awards in her high school career and was a four-year member of the honor roll.

As a senior, she helped lead the Pirates to the second round of the NCHSAA Tournament in 2022-23 and was selected to compete at the inaugural Queen City All-Star Game. She averaged 16.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.9 steals per game during her final prep season.

Her junior year saw Salton average better than 13 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.9 steals while earning All-SW4A honors. She was a three-time all-county honoree according to UnionCountyHoops.com.

She intends to major in mechanical engineering at Sacramento State.

Salton is the fifth commitment for Kallhoff since taking the reins of the Hornet program, joining BYU transfer Sophia Lee, France's Célestine Segrétain, Skyline College transfer Seilala Lautaimi, and Chicago's Ayanna Jackson. The quintet joins the program's four fall signees: Paula Haw, Lina Falk, Summah Hanson, and Sofia Alonso, for the 2023-24 campaign.
