Sacramento State Student-Athlete of the Week, Aug. 20-26
Senior midfielder Dominic Scotti is this year’s first Sacramento State Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring two goals for men’s soccer in their first two matches of the season. The Hornets played to a draw against #22 ranked Portland at Portland and battled the Pac-12’s Oregon State, also on the road.
Scotti scored the first goal of the season for men’s soccer just 55 second into their first match as the Hornets jumped ahead 1-0 at #22 Portland. Scotti and the Hornets played a man down for 105 minutes after an early red card but still managed to force the top-25 Pilots into a 1-1 draw.
The men’s soccer team captain opened the scoring again as the Hornets took on the Pac-12’s Oregon State, also on the road. He struck early, scoring in the 8th minute to give the Hornets another first-half lead. Ultimately, the overwhelming Beavers offense caught up with the Hornets, but not until late in the second half.
Perhaps most impressively, Scotti’s two goals came on just two total shots over the weekend, giving him a perfect 1.000 shot percentage. Dating back to last season, Scotti has scored six goals in his last eight matches to lead the team.
