CROSS COUNTRY HEADS SOUTH FOR UC RIVERSIDE INVITATIONAL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Following a strong start to the season two weeks ago, the Sacramento State cross country teams will head to the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14. The women's 6K race will start at 7:30 a.m. and will be followed by the men's 8K race at 8:05 a.m.

A full list of teams for the meet has not been announced but the Hornets will face fellow Big Sky member Southern Utah. The Thunderbirds women are the defending Big Sky champions are currently ranked 25th nationally. The SUU men are ranked 21st nationally.

Sacramento State started its season at the Bonanza Casino Nevada Twilight Classic on Aug. 30. The men's and women's team each finished in second place. Shane Marshall captured the individual title in the men's race and was named the Big Sky Men's Athlete of the Week. Cagnei Duncan led the women after finishing fourth overall.

"We're excited for the opportunity to travel to Southern California to compete against fellow D1 California cross country programs, and a tough conference opponent (Southern Utah)," head cross country coach Aaron Braun said. "We're in the middle of a big block of training, so I'm eager to learn which of our runners are able to focus through the fatigue and tired legs they'll be running on Saturday morning."
