MARSHALL FINISHES FIRST; MEN AND WOMEN BOTH SECOND AT NEVADA TWILIGHT

RENO, Nev. — Shane Marshall finished first in the men's race and Cagnei Duncan was fourth in the women's race to lead the Sacramento State cross country teams at the Bonanza Casino Nevada Twilight Classic on Friday night.

Marshall completed the men's 8K course in 24:29 to win the race by six seconds. He averaged 4:56 per mile and was trailed by former Hornet Tyler Sickler who was competing unattached. Senior Tristen Thomson worked his way into the top five with a fourth-place finish in 24:41. Senior Elijah Changco ranked third on the team and was eighth overall with a time of 25:14.

Host Nevada edged Sacramento State, 31-25, to win the team title. The Wolf Pack four of the top six times by collegiate athletes and were led by Jared Marchegger who was third overall.

In the women's competition, a pair of unattached runners had the two fastest times. Lindsey Sickler finished the 6K course in 21:07 and was six seconds ahead of Hiley Dobbs. Duncan had the second best time among collegiate athletes in 21:39. Sophomore Blayney Dolan was seventh overall in 22:12. The team also counted times from Emma Armstrong, Rosemary David and Ariana Ruiz.

The Wolf Pack completed the sweep of the team title after totaling 22 points, compared to the 37 for the Hornets.

Sacramento State will next compete at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14.
