MEN AND WOMEN EACH FINISH SEVENTH AT BIG SKY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Led by Andres Sandoval and Amy Quinones, the Sacramento State's men's and women's cross country teams both finished in seventh place at the Big Sky Championships on Saturday at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.

Sandoval paced the Hornets with a time of 24:17.6 to finish 14th overall on the 8K course. Tristen Thomson ranked second on the team and finished 40th overall in 25:14.4. The next three scorers for the Hornets all crossed within 13 seconds of Thomson. Ross Walker ran 25:18.6 to finish 45th. Shane Marshall was three spots behind with a time of 25:22.2. Santiago Ruiz finished in 25:27.9 to pace 53rd.

Northern Arizona, which has won the past two NCAA Div. I team titles cruised to another conference title. The Lumberjacks had the top four finishers led by Matthew Baxter who won the race in 22:46.0. Weber State edged Southern Utah for second place while Montana State and Idaho State completed the top five.

Quinones completed the 5K race with a time of 17:32.0 to place 29th overall. Just over six seconds later, Rachel Victor crossed in 17:38.5 to rank second on the team and finish 34th. Cagnei Duncan ran 17:41.8 to rank third and team also counted times from Denise Reis who finished 40th (17:48.5) and Rosemary David was 53rd (18:14.2).

Southern Utah captured the women's team title with 28 points. The Thunderbirds had four of the top six finishers led by Angie Nickerson who won the race in 16:30.3. Northern Arizona was second with 65 points while Weber State (92), Idaho (117) and Portland State (128) completed the top five.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Doc Adams Invitational on Nov. 3 before hosting the NCAA West Regional on Friday, Nov. 9, at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
