QUINONES, SANDOVAL PACE CROSS COUNTRY AT SANTA CLARA BRONCO INVITATIONAL

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Amy Quinones and Andres Sandoval, once again, led the Sacramento State women's and men's cross country teams on Saturday at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational. The Hornet women finished in 11th place overall while the men were 12th.

Quinones recorded her fourth top 10 finish in as many meets this year and has now led the team in every meet the last three seasons. The senior completed the course in 20:26.1 to finish in ninth place. Her time was a career best over a 6K course and left her just 26.1 seconds behind the leader.

Rachel Victor and Denise Reis each completed the course within a minute of Quinones. Victor ranked second on the team and was 35th overall in 21:14.5. Reis ran 21:21.9 to place 45th. Amelia Pear and Alysia Foley completed the scorers for the team. Pear had a time of 22:08.8 to place 112th. Foley was 117th overall in 22:11.4.

Sandoval completed the men's 8K race in 24:13.8 to finish in 14th place. His time was also a career best for the distance and marked the third time he's led the team in four meets this year. Tristen Thomson also crossed in under 25 minutes to record the second best finish on the team. Thomson ran 24:51.3 to place 59th. Shane Marshall, Santiago Ruiz and Ross Walker were all within 25 seconds on one another to account for the other scores for the team. Marshall had a time of 25:01.7 to finish in 73rd place. Ruiz ran 25:14.9 to place 93rd and Walker was 112th in 25:26.1

Oregon State had three finishers among the top eight and seven in the top 20 to win the women's team title. The Bengals totaled 48 points and were followed by Rice and UTEP who each scored 172. Rice was awarded second place based on its sixth fastest time.

Chico State claimed the men's team title with 53 points. Host Santa Clara was second at 96 while Pepperdine totaled 116 to take third.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Big Sky Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27. The team will be the host this season with the meet taking place at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
