QUINONES, THOMSON POST FASTEST TIMES FOR CROSS COUNTRY AT UCR INVITATIONAL

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Amy Quinones finished in fourth place in the women's race and Tristen Thomson was 25th in the men's race to lead the Sacramento State cross country teams at the UCR Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

The Hornet women, who cracked the top 15 in the West Region last week, finished in fourth place in the meet. The Hornets scored 136 points to follow Southern Utah (31), Cal Baptist (44) and Utah Valley (108). The men's team finished sixth overall with 235 points. Southern Utah completed the sweep with 27 points. Utah Valley was second at 70 while Pomona-Pitzer (150), Central Arizona (171) and Cal Baptist (187) completed the top five.

Quinones continued her hot start to the season by completing the 6K course in 20:32.5. Her time was 32 seconds off the winning mark of 20:00.6 from SUU's Angie Nickerson. Quinones previously finished first at the Fresno Cross Country Invitational two weeks ago. Rachel Victor ranked second on the team and was 24th overall at 21:18.3

The women also counted times from Alysia Foley, Cagnei Duncan, Denise Reis, Rosemary David and Blayney Dolan. Foley ran 21:35.0 to finish in 34th place while Duncan was eight seconds back in 40th place. Reis finished in 22:02.3 to finish 55th and David was 75th in 22:23.3. Dolan rounded out the scorers with a time of 22:45.1 to place 97th.

Thomson led the men's team for the first time in his career by finishing 25th in 24:51.4. Elijah Changco and Andres Sandoval both crossed the line within a minute of Thomson with times of 25:14.8 (41st) and 25:13.3 (43rd), respectively. Ross Walker ran 25:31.4 to place 60th and was followed by Shane Marshall who was 72nd in 25:41.4. Anthony Lemus and Abrahama Maldonado completed the lineup by running 26:58.3 and 27:31.4, respectively, on the 8K course.

Sacramento State returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Capital Cross Challenge. The meet will take place at Haggin Oaks Golf Cournse and will include, college, high school and youth races.
