QUINONES, CHANGCO POST FASTEST TIMES FOR CROSS COUNTRY AT WEST REGIONAL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women were led by Amy Quinones and Elijah Changco had the highest finish for the Hornet men at the NCAA Div. I Cross Country West Regional on Friday at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.

The Sacramento State women placed 27th among 35 teams. Stanford and Washington claimed the two automatic berths to the NCAA Championships. The Cardinal totaled 71 points while the Huskies, who were the top ranked team in the region, finished with 88. The remainder of the top five was comprised of San Francisco (101), Oregon (107) and Portland (130).

Washington's Amy-Eloise Neale followed her victory at the Pac-12 Championships with win at the regional. Neale ran 19:27.8 to place 13.3 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor. The junior averaged 5:13.1 per mile over the 6K course.

Quinones crossed the line in 21:08.4 to place 70th and record the fastest time by a Hornet. Gracie Albano was 107th after running 21:43.5 Haley Heinemann ran 22:16.4 to place 148th. The team also counted times from Emma Armstrong (22:44.5, 181st) and Jocely Orozco (23:31.1, 207th).

Stanford completed the sweep in the men's race, winning the team title with 75 points. Portland claimed the second automatic berth the NCAA Championships after totaling 90 points. UCLA (112), Oregon (122) and Washington State (143) completed the top five. Sacramento State placed 24th.

Oregon had the top two individual finishers led by three-time NCAA champion Edward Cheserek. The senior rank 29:23.7 and finished 21.9 seconds ahead of teammate Matthew Maton.

Changco, a freshman from Hollister, Calif., led the Sacramento State men for the first time during the season. He completed the 10K course in 31:59.5 to place 103rd. Ryan Salcido ranked second on the team and was 128th overall after running 32:26.7. Sam Scheuer ran 32:42.7 to place 144th. Juan Valierio was 150th and Aidan Schraer was one spot back after they ran 32:48.1 and 32:42.3 to complete the scorers for the team.

The meet marked the final competition of the year for the Hornets.
