MITCHELL, BYERS LEAD WOMEN, MEN TO TITLES AT HORNET JAMBOREE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women and men each ran their way to a team title at the Hornet Jamboree on Saturday at Granite Regional Park. The Hornet women dominated the field scoring 15 points and accounting for the top six finishers. The Sacramento State scored 23 points to easily best the competition.

Rachel Mitchell led the women by winning the 5K race in 17:20.1 Lauren Mugnaini was second in 17:26.2. The pair were followed by Chloe Berlioux (17:42.3), Stephanie Rasmussen (18:05.2) and Emily Johnston (18:13.7) in the top five.

Reesey Byers defended his individual title in the men's 4-mile race. Byers crossed the line in 19:29.1 to become the only athlete in the meet to finish in under 20 minutes. Domenic D'Acquisto ranked second on the team and finished fourth overall with a time of 20:10.4. The next five Hornet runners crossed in succession ranging between 20:20.9 and 20:38.9.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Stanford Invite on Sept. 28.
