WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES FIRST AT DOC ADAMS; MEN SECOND

DAVIS, Calif. — Justine Rea had the top time among collegiate finishers to lead the Sacramento State women's cross country team to the team title at the Doc Adams Invitational on Saturday. The Hornet men placed second behind Stanford.

Rea placed third overall with a time of 21:05 over the 6K course at Putah Creek. Her time trailed only Lauren Mugnaini (20:32) and Rache Mitchell (20:47) who were both competing unattached.

Teresa Malloary ranked second on the team was 11th overall with a time of 21:52. Amanda Garcia finished just one spot behind Mallory at 21:56. Freshman Emily Johnston ran 22:10 to finish in 16th place. Ashley Chavez provided the final time towards the team total and placed 36th after running 23:03.

Sacramento State finished with 42 points to edge UC Davis (46) for the top spot. Chico State scored 62 points to place third while Santa Clara (70) and Holy Names (153) completed the top five. The victory by the Hornets over the Aggies gave Sacramento State five points towards the Causeway Cup.

In the men's race, Stanford claimed four of the top five spots with the exception being the Hornets' Reesey Byers who placed third in 24:08. Byers' time was just four seconds behind Stanford's Andrew Bernerick who was the individual champion.

Benny Willers, Domenic D'Acquisto, Cole Younger and Kyle Lackner each finished among the top 20 for Sacramento State. Willers was 16th overall after running 25:19. D'Acquisto, Younger and Lackner finished 18th-20th, respectively, with each running 25:24.

Stanford ran away with the team title, scoring 19 points. Sacramento State tallied 57 points to place second while Cal was third with 90. The men's race against UC Davis did not count towards the Causeway Cup. That battle will be settled on Friday at the NCAA West Regional in Seattle.
