VOLLEYBALL SIGNS KAMBA-GRIFFIN AND SODERBERG TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State 11th-year head coach Ruben Volta announced the signing of two high school seniors to National Letters of Intent today, and each will enroll at the University as freshmen next fall.

The signees are middle blocker Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin (Davis Senior High School/Five Starz Volleyball Club) and outside/rightside hitter Karlee Soderberg (Centennial Collegiate High School/Saskatoon Smash Volleyball Club).

TIYANANE KAMBA-GRIFFIN

Kamba-Griffin, a 5-foot-11 middle blocker from Davis, Calif., recently completed her third and final season of volleyball at Davis Senior High School…played middle blocker all three seasons for the Blue Devils…will now begin her third season with the Five Starz Volleyball Club in Davis, where she plays for former Sacramento State head coach Debby Colberg…played on the varsity squad as a junior and senior for Davis High School, and was a first team all-Delta League selection each of those seasons…during her final two years, she combined for 279 kills, 127 blocks, 38 aces and a .353 hitting percentage…as a senior, she averaged 2.3 kills and 1.0 blocks per set while hitting .352…also set the Davis HS school record in the high jump, clearing a mark of 5-06…that mark is currently 12th best in the state…placed first in the high jump while matching her PR at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Master's meet…entering her second season as team captain of Five Starz as the team began practices last week…named to the all-tournament team at the 2017 Girls Junior National Championships.

Volta quote: "Tiya is a middle blocker who is extremely quick, and is a good jumper with a very fast arm swing. She plays the game hard, and with a lot of energy. There are a lot of things we like about her speed and her enthusiasm for the game of volleyball."

KARLEE SODERBERG

Karlee Soderberg, a 6-foot-3 outside/rightside hitter from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is in her fourth season on the varsity team (Senior Team) at Centennial Collegiate High School in Saskatoon…can touch over 10 feet…played four years of volleyball, basketball and soccer, and ran two years of track and field for the Chargers…named team MVP each of her final three seasons with the volleyball squad, and was the Rookie of the Year as a freshman…as a senior, she was the team captain and averaged 4.80 kills and 2.20 digs per set while hitting .360…competed for Team Sask, representing Saskatchewan at major sporting events across Canada…that includes competing at the Canada Cup for Team Sask for three years…played four years of club volleyball for the Huskie Volleyball Club, and most recently, two years for the Saskatoon Smash Volleyball Club…will also serve as the team captain of her basketball team during her senior season.

Volta quote: "Karlee brings size and the ability to play on the left and right side. She has a very good arm swing, and will help our attacking and blocking. Like Tiya, Karlee is another player that is very competitive on the court and always plays hard."

Sacramento State (16-15, 11-6) will begin play in the Big Sky Conference Tournament on Thanksgiving Day in Greeley, Colo. The Hornets, who are the No. 4 seed, will take on No. 5 Idaho State at 9 a.m. PST. Should the Hornets win, the semifinals will take place on Friday and the championship match on Saturday.
