LOVETT CAPS BIG WEEK WITH BIG SKY VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sophomore outside hitter Sloan Lovett was named the Big Sky Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after helping lead the Hornets to a 4-0 record and the tournament championship at the season-opening La Salle Invitational this past weekend.

Lovett, who received the weekly award for the first time in her career, averaged 4.07 kills, 2.43 digs and 0.36 aces per set while hitting .318. The 4-0 start is the program's best since the 1995 season. For her efforts, Lovett was also Sacramento State's representative on the all-tournament team.

Lovett, who is a six-rotation outside hitter, posted double figures in kills in all four matches, and led the Hornets in kills during the last three contests of the tournament. Her career high for any match was 12 kills entering the season, and she eclipsed that mark twice during the week, including 21 kills at La Salle and 15 kills against Bucknell. She hit better than .330 in three consecutive matches, including .381 against Lafayette, .395 vs. La Salle and .333 against Fairleigh Dickinson.

During the tournament, she set career highs in kills (21), hitting percentage (.395), aces (3), digs (11) and points (24.0). She also led the team in kills, kills per set, aces, aces per set (0.36) and total points (63.5). Through four matches, Lovett's 57 kills are already 12 shy of what she accumulated all of last season (69).

On Saturday, she opened the tournament with 15 kills and 11 digs against Bucknell, and followed that up with 10 kills, three aces and seven digs vs. Lafayette. On Sunday, Lovett went for 21 kills, two aces, eight digs and two blocks at La Salle, and had 11 kills and eight blocks vs. Fairleigh Dickinson.

The Hornets return to action later this week when they host the 11th-annual Sacramento State Invitational at Colberg Court. The two-day, four-team tournament, which takes place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6-7, will feature six matches. Each team will play three times, as the Hornets play Friday against San Jose State, and Saturday vs. both Central Connecticut and Cal Poly.
