BOULDER, Colo. - The Sacramento State women's team traveled to Colorado this week to take on the Colorado Buffs for the just third time in program history. Unfortunately, it was a tough matchup for the Hornets, who found themselves on the wrong end of a 7-0 sweep.
The pairings of Maria Gonzalez/Jenna Dorian and Sofi Wicker/Sofia Gulnova both went down in doubles play, falling to two Buffaloes teams, 6-1 and 6-0. The final doubles match, featuring Sacramento State's Ana Loaiza Esquivias and Carolina Chernyetsky, went unfinished with the Hornets trailing 5-3.
Loazia Esquivias put up a great fight in the No. 1 singles spot, taking on the 106th ranked women's tennis player, Linda Huang. Loaiza Esquivias took Huang to a tiebreaker in the first set, but ultimately fell 7-6(4), 6-4.
"Ana really showed she is one of the top players in the country today," said head coach Cami Hubbs. "Despite the tough loss today, she had a great match in both singles and doubles. Just a few misse dopportunites otherwise the results could have been different."
The rest of the singles matches featured more tough losses for the Hornets, who went down 7-0 Saturday to the Buffs.
Sacramento State takes to the courts again tomorrow as they take on Northern Colorado in their second conference match of the season. The match begins at 9:00 am PT.
