SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State swept doubles, but No. 1 singles player Jennifer Nguyen had to retire and UT Arlington won three other singles matches to claim a 4-2 win in non-conference play on Tuesday at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.

The Sacramento State (4-8) duo of senior Sophie Lohscheidt and sophomore Olivia Boija opened the day with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles while senior Katharina Knoebl and freshman Alina Soltanici won 8-2 at No. 3. Nguyen and sophomore Daria Savchenko outlasted UT Arlington's (8-6) Elizabeth Thomas and Angeles de los Rios 8-7 at No. 2.

Nguyen had a 4-1 lead in the first set of her match against Thomas at No. 1 singles before having to retire. Knoebl claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win over Verena Scott at No. 6, but that would be the Hornets only singles victory. The Mavericks earned straight-set wins at No. 2, 3, and 4 to clinch the match. Boija was leading at No. 5 when the Mavericks clinched the win and her match went unfinished.

The Hornets play another non-conference match on Thursday hosting UMBC at 2:30 p.m. on the Sacramento State on-campus tennis courts.
